Productivity or the lack thereof…
Since I’ve taken myself off of coffee my productivity has been shot. My body hasn’t responded that well to the change. I’ve been groggy and tired with no means to combat the lethargy. The last two weeks haven’t been the best, let’s put it that way.
I can’t go home for Christmas. Technicalities and hiccups with the CIC mean that I have to stay in the true north for the holidays. Unless a miracle happens. But when you are dealing with massive government bureaucracies, miracles are hard to come by. I’m getting used to the idea. Maybe I can get back to writing that play… Realistically though, I’ll be working on my thesis.
I’m coming to Toronto for a couple days in early November. I’m presenting at the CERLAC grad conference on the 7th and 8th… What I’ll actually be saying is still in the air. That will be the focus of this week I assume.
I must confess that I’ve become quite the fan of Grey’s Anatomy. Sheema started watching the show while I was in Trinidad and when I came back she was very much into the show. She got me to watch an episode or two and after some initial resistance, I’ve gotten addicted to it too. The writing is excellent (for the most part — the amount of scenes that make you cringe are kept to a minimum), the acting is superb and the characters are well developed. The story lines are engaging and they take their sweet time to develop them. Yeah. It’s a good show. Soap opera-ish, but hey, that’s what I research anyway. Call it study time.
I made it through the Dan Brown “Deception Point”. Great page turner. He prostituted the book to get his little contrived happy ending. But he did give me what I wanted, which was a nice read.
As for the Gospel of Judas… It reads like a scientology pamphlet. The introductory essay (book) by Pagels is good but the meat of the whole thing leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe I’ll still slug through it. Who knows…

If it’s so shitty why do you still keep up with it? You obviously know the recent plot developments.
If it has become shitty and I enjoy it I can only imagine the heights that the show must have achieved in its first two seasons. However what it still is is a well written character-driven ensemble piece. Meredith can be annoying because there are another 8 well-drawn characters behind her. The point is that through the shit you care for the characters. That is good writing.
I admit that the writing goes through momentary lapses… but the standard is usually very high and the acting generally top-notch.
I too miss Isaiah. His role as Dr. Burke was awesome and one of the reasons I got into the show in the first place.
