Essay grind

Back to that time. You know. The essay grind. I have two papers to get through. Not so bad I guess. It’s funny that I find myself thinking back to last year April. My last year of undergrad and I had 5 essays to work through in one month. That was crazy time. But. I enjoyed it. I remember the simplicity of it all. I had my own apartment, so no stinky punk rock flat mate to worry about, interrupting the groove. I had no TA responsibilities. I was ordering my groceries online and getting them delivered. I was at peace. What I remember most was listening to audio books while I cut up chicken and washed dishes. I would work, write, clean, cook, meditate. The whole experience was oddly zen-like.

This month seems to offer more of what this academic year gave me. Dislocation and movement. I have no funding for the summer so I have to go work. I have an interview in good old Toronto on the 14th. If I get the job I can breathe a bit easier. At least I won’t starve. *And* If I make it all the way to September without begging this would be my first solo powered year in a very long time. Definitely learned a lot this time around.

Ward, if you could enjoy 5 essays in one month, you can get through anything! Even a fundingless summer (and “without begging” :)
Your flat mate would definitely get under my skin.

I LOVE the play! You are great at what you do. Love the themes, humour, satire…

    You order your groceries online?!?

    *boggle*

@Jer. Thanks. :) Glad you like the play. I have some good tweaks in mind for the rewrite. I’ll keep you updated.

@Serene. ‘Ordered’ is the correct word. No comparable service in Ottawa. http://www.grocerygateway.com. What is your argument against on-line ordering?

  4. Serene Says:

No argument. I thought it was expensive, but I went to take a look, and prices are comparable with Dominion’s I guess.

@Serene. Not to mention convenient. There was only a 5 or 6 buck delivery charge too. I found that getting to the store on the bus and coming back either in taxi or with 60+ lbs of groceries on the bus was like 10 bucks and a lot more time and work than necessary…

I thought it was more expensive too at first, but I had some friends who were doing it and once I checked it out it wasn’t bad at all. It really seems more bourgeois than it is…
