I got in

I got in! So this July I’m going to Trinidad to do this writers work shop! I’m really excited about it. Merle Hodge! I can’t believe it. Looking forward to shutting the world out and just getting down to the nitty gritty of the craft.

Speaking of which, I think I’ll give you the story of the last 20 minutes. I bought a desktop blogging program the other day, that I found to be absolutely fantastic, but when I was testing it out I was using it in conjunction with this other program called writeroom. The blogging software enabled me to blog without logging in to the rather annoying web interface of the blog. Quite the improvement. But it itself is a very lousy place to do the actual writing.

That’s where Writeroom comes in, see what it does is it blacks out your screen completely and lets you write distraction-free. I want writeroom very very badly but I don’t want to pay the 25 bucks to use it. I’ve spent the last 25 minutes trying to find something out there that is both mac compatible / savvy and free or cheaper and haven’t come across anything… except an old version of writeroom (version 1.0) and it’s ok. 2.0 is the bees knees.

But even though I am only using the 1.0 software, its already got me writing like a lunatic… but really 25 dollars? The blogging software was already 25…

Ok. So maybe you have noticed by now that I’m really cheap.

See, the 2.0 has this wonderful feature where you can take text in any open window, go full screen and distraction-free, close it and just go back to work… It’s got typewriter mode, so it keeps the cursor in the middle of the page instead of drifting down, down, down to the bottom of the page… It’s just the feel of it man. It works and it makes me write. ARGH. Maybe it is worth the money after all…

I should point you to Lifehacker – they link to a whole bunch of productivity tools (use the search or tags option) that do exactly the same sorts of things you’re looking for, and most of them free. They cater to all OSs, so it’s a great blog to follow, to see what’s been developing.

turns out that’s where I did a lot of searching. :S Thanks tho…

Congratulations on getting in :) Hopefully it can help you sort out your script, and help draw out other ideas! We never did end up doing your script in class, now that I think about it.

Thanks Emma. Darren was talking about doing a reading of it but it never panned out. Who knows for later.

Congrats, Ward. See you there. Got my list of fellow participants last night and googling who the hell y’all are. I don’t have a blog or any organised presence on the net. Colin

@ Collin. Yeah, you found me. :) I guess I’ll see you in Trinidad.
