Six days
So the first guy didn’t pan out. It took him two days but he got an email from a place that he ‘really wants’ and so he doesn’t have to settle any more for this place that he doesn’t ‘really want’… What can you do? So I called this other guy who was interested in the place and he came to look at it tonight and he says he’ll take it. Ok. So. To recap: My window is getting pretty damned slim here. I have to find a place, move out and move in, all within 6 days, and try to keep up with school too. At least I won’t be bored.
And how is school doing? Pretty well. This past week I finally had a tutorial session that ‘totally bombed out’. I looked at them, they looked at me and we both decided – at the same time almost – to end the class half an hour early. These tutorial sessions are only an hour long, and I take attendance, so I couldn’t have been doing anything for very long. I sucked it up and changed my approach for the second tutorial, which I have immediately afterwards and that one went pretty well.
So, I learned from my mistake. And I believe that that mistake was flying too low over a particular text as opposed to cruising high over the main concepts and pointing out the stuff that is actually applicable and relevant. i.e. Instead of asking ‘how did person x in this weeks readings think about y?’ ask them ‘how does concept z apply to the news you’re going to watch tonight?’ It seemed to work much better. Of course, now that I’m in graduate school I have to use terms like ‘pedagogical’ and other such shit when I’m discussing my ‘approach’.
If you were wondering how the Bell modem saga was progressing. I finally called them and told them to take back their service. So it’s supposed to be cancelled now, and they will mail me a return kit. But wait! you say. Why would you send it to the mail box that you can’t access? Haha! What I didn’t tell you is that I now have an independent mailbox downtown . It cost me a couple of extra clams but I can call and ask if I got anything before I go.And they put any faxes that come in for me in my box too. Virtual office stuff. So not so bad.
I’ve been marking essays today. LORD! I now understand the plight of teachers, I really do. This stuff is hard. You are literally jumping for joy when you read even a semi-good one. So many don’t even try.
And Sheema’s coming tomorrow. Ostensibly to help me move. I can’t wait! There is a silver lining to this cloud.
Now to go to craigs list and find me someplace to move my stuff to…
