Virginia Tech Nine
The mass murder at Virginia Tech is shocking. If only for the sheer number of bodies. 33. I can’t even imagine if something like that happened here. How do you deal with that? God bless those poor souls that died and those who have to live through it. Definitely I have nothing to complain about.
I’ve been busy. Trying to deal with my own little issues. I have now knocked out three of my essays and I have another two to do. Plus one more exam. I finished the last essay on Sunday at midnight and I haven’t been able to get back to work since. First I took a little time off and then I got some of my errands done. Important stuff that hadn’t been attended to in weeks. I was supposed to get back to work yesterday, but I’ve been doing a good bit of sleeping. I feel that tiredness again taking hold of me. Almost there.
I must recommend the audio book of “the Measure of a Man” by Sidney Poitier. I hear that the print book is not well written, but the abridged audio is sweet. Read by him too. So nice hearing about home, the Bahamas, back in the day.
Our election is coming up. I’m registered but at this point it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to go. Oh well.

Hey Ward, I’m just hoping that the media doesn’t glamourize this atrocity. Make a martyr out of him and then encourage others to do the same…that’s my fear. I often try to understand what this world is coming too but it gets depressing. What’s happening to the human quality? Our value and respect for each other? It’s so easy to lash out now when we have issues and ignore people when they do.
It’s just important for us to find that someone we can talk to when things become difficult and continue to understand that we are not in it alone.
Well you know that we keep you in our prayers over here and is sad to know that you are not going to make it home for elections. Election fever is definitely in the air…and of course the real issues are being overshadowed by insults, name calling and political rhetoric. One day we’ll reach the maturity of holding these men and women accountable for what’s truly important…one day!
Anyway…hope you get your work all done soon…i’m done and it feels great. I was just going to Logos to pick up the book but I’ll ask them to order the audio for me if they don’t have it…I certainly doubt (as much as I love Chapter One) that they have it. My summer reading marathon begins…I want to get some more writing done too.
Be safe!

Hah! So you’re done! Congratulations.
I have just a week more to go. Still lots to do. Can’t take my eye off the ball as they say.
I would say what happened at Virginia Tech is a reflection. A society that carries on so many wars abroad (and not to mention the campaigns on its own – think Katrina) can not expect its domestic life to be total bliss. All that aggression and frustration does not just evaporate. So sad that so many innocents die because of it.
Yeah, politics. Plane tickets are 800+ so if I ain’t gettin *assistance* then nothin happenin there. I will miss the show and the lights. Take comfort in the fact that very few societies on the planet possess the maturity of which you speak. So, all told, we ain’t that far behind.
