Back in T.O.
Well it had to end sometime. A whole month has come and gone and here I am back in the city by the bay. Back to classes and getting some of those monstrous papers back. I contracted some kind of common cold virus while I was in the Bahamas. I’m pretty sure its not the dreaded bird flu. So I am sick and coughing and doing all those assorted uncool things that people do when they are sick.
I came back to find the apartment intact, just the way I left it, but with a notice on the door that roach spraying was imminent. These Assiniboine buildings have problems with roaches. I met someone who moved out because the infestation became unbearable. (He was not exaggerating) To get ready for a spraying is one of those situations where you have to completely gut your apartment. You have to clear all the kitchen cupboards, all the drawers and do the same in the bathroom and leave a big pile in the middle of the floor. I tried to tell the super that I was sick and quite unable to manage the task and was willing to spend money to reschedule. I learned that Assiniboine apartments are not democracies.
The spraying happened today, and in my weakened state I was almost ready when they came. We had to evacuate our apartments for at least 4 hours, and I was quite grateful that they had a room set aside for the displaced refugees. I was equally grateful that I was the only one who took advantage of the service. I would have hated to share the room with a pet or worse yet, another human. I slept pretty much the whole time, and then made it back to my room and its unlive-ableness. No rest for the wicked I tell you. Anyway the furniture is back against the wall, but there is still a big mound of stuff in the center of the floor. Somehow I don’t think I’m going to have anyone over for dinner for a while.
