Illusions of a social existence
The leaves are changing and I’m still here at 5 in the morning pondering my existence and wondering how could I be so foolish. The temerity even! To imagine that a University education and a social life can successfully co-exist in the same persons life is a pipe-dream that may never be realized. One of the two MUST suffer. On this there can be no doubt. The more alive my social life, the more the schoolwork suffers. And vice versa, its a simple equation really. Simple enough that I actually get it. I am an English Lit major… Illusions of a social existence. A.k.a. a life.
A touch of Irony if you will. I am reading the texts for my Intro to the Caribbean class, regarding the fiesty Kalinagoes a.k.a the Caribs and the just as resilient Taino a.k.a the Arawaks, and I happen to be sipping Carib beer. Isn’t that a coincidence? Turns out that the Europeans didn’t destroy them after all…
Thanksgiving is coming. At least the Canadian variety. Family festivals like these can be particularly depressing to International Students who have families in other parts of the world. Not that we celebrate Thanksgiving in the Bahamas mind you, but that everyone else has a family to go to, and you don’t kind of sucks. Just a little. I am trying to organize something, but my efforts don’t seem to be yeilding fruit. Once its over remind me to give a little rant about how democracy and school clubs just don’t work.
In relation to this site, I’m investigating PHPWebsite software to handle the content management. If only for the homepage to get that sort of working, and a situation where I don’t have to have 20 different logins to change stuff. Thats a lot of passwords to remember.
It looks like I should also be able to get some more of my poems and short stories up with no problem. And the promise of less spam on the guestbook always motivates me to look for something better than what I now have. Look for that in about two to three weeks. Until then I guess I’ll just keep on keeping on. And blog a bit here and there.
