The Big 100

Hello everybody,
Today is a special day! Not only is this the day that I have completed all my exams, Not only is this the day before I head back to me home country… This also happens to be my 100th blog entry! What do you know? Its been about a full year since I’ve started this whole blogging thing. I still ain’t really sure why I do it… Sometimes I feel a little exposed and vulnerable having this much information about myself up here for the world to theoretically consume, but I still do it anyway.

Through the ups and downs of the past 100 entries as I look back over the past year, three things stand out in my mind….

The biggest thing that happened to me this year would have to be my first show at the Central Bank. If you still haven’t seen the website for that, I would encourage you to check it out now. That was a really big personal milestone. That was my real graduation from COB’s art program. Looking back at it now, it was a pretty gutsy thing to do, to jump from never having a “real” exhibition to attempting to take over the biggest and most prestigious space in the Bahamas… But it happened. It worked. I established myself as a “painter / artist”. I can now say it without cringing. So I guess that was the start of a career…

The second biggest thing to happen this year would have to be me coming to Canada and York University. This is the start of a whole new phase in my life. Living alone in a foreign country and struggling to educate myself and learn something about this world… to grow. I almost didn’t make it here. Thanks to my benefactors who have done so much to support me over my various crises of the last few years. Now that I’m here, the real fighting begins. Not with the school, or the people here. The real war, the only war in fact, is in my head. There is so much to absorb, so many possibilities and so much static within. Its a journey for sure. The new environment helps to make the process so much more dramatic…

The third thing that makes 2004 special in my opinion is this website. I had been putting it off for so long. So many promises I made to myself, and so much fear. What would it be? What would I put on it? I had created websites for others, given advice on web development, but yet I had no place in cyberspace. That has obviously changed. It’s nice having somewhere to put all of the loose strands that I call my life. Over time, this will grow and evolve with me. Its like a garden, I guess. Something to share. Thanks to all of those who have visited over the year. The amount of traffic is knocking around 150 unique visitors a month. Not bad. I have a lot more content to put up over the next 12 months and then to get the look and feel into something cohesive and visually appealing. Probably the first thing would be to expand the writing tab and put up some of my extra-curricula essays and short stories…

The Big 100. A milestone to be sure. Its been a good year, and 2005 promises still more… My heart is full with appreciation for what the universe has allowed me to comprehend. The journey is never easy and there is much pain to endure. However, the thorns in your side in time become the stem of the rose. Through death there is rebirth. Opening your eyes to a new day. Thank you.
